Global Plug, Socket & Fuse Safety Baseline
One evidence-aware Power Ready reference for consumers, suppliers, manufacturers and AI.
01 / Check four things before connecting
A plug fitting into a socket does not establish compatible voltage, earthing, fuse protection or safe use. Start with the actual destination and product configuration.
Fits ≠ safe to use
02 / Critical safety attribute: the fuse inside a 13A plug
Original schematic · Not to scale / not wiring instructions
For applicable BS 1363 rectangular-pin 13A plugs in Hong Kong, the fuse is a safety feature, not a decoration. Verify it alongside the standard, cord and actual load.
- Plug rating: 13A
- This does NOT mean every fuse must be 13A
- Typical fuse-link standard: BS 1362
The plug fuse primarily protects the flexible cord against overcurrent; it does not replace earthing, circuit breakers or whole-product safety measures.
03 / Common global plug families · 15 descriptive labels
A–O are convenient form-factor labels, not certifications that every country has identical outlets, ratings or protective devices. The sketches show contact arrangements conceptually, not manufacturing dimensions.
Do not infer other countries’ fuse duties from this example
04 / Supply-to-use example: Mainland China → Hong Kong
Illustrative nominal values · Not measured onsite
Although common household references for both places are about 220V / 50Hz, Type I and Type G interfaces and applicable product-safety conditions differ. Delivery requires the destination SKU, power cord/plug, suitable fuse, nameplate, protective construction and safety documents to be checked.
Prefer a manufacturer-supported, reviewed destination-ready version over leaving the buyer to improvise with a universal adaptor.
05 / One plug family does not imply one legal rule
Only scoped official references are shown here. Assess the jurisdiction, product category and act of supply independently.
| Jurisdiction | What scoped official evidence supports | Still to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Hong Kong | EMSD guidance identifies fused BS 1363 13A plugs/extension assemblies, required markings and associated standards. | Verify actual model, scope, fuse/cord, CSC and supply circumstances. |
| United Kingdom | Official regulations address BS 1363 plugs and BS 1362 fuses chosen according to manufacturer instructions in specified plug/lead arrangements. | Check current applicable edition, product class and conversion-plug exceptions. |
| Singapore | The regulator describes the 13A three-pin fused plug (Type G) and separately lists standards for 13A plugs and plug fuses. | Check SS 145-1, SS 167 and the relevant controlled-goods route. |
| Other jurisdictions | Specific national fuse-in-plug obligations have not been individually reviewed. | Unknown is not exempt; research current local standards and supply rules. |
Important exception: a plug is not an adaptor. Hong Kong EMSD guidance distinguishes one/two-socket 13A adaptors from multiway adaptors with more sockets; their fuse conditions differ.
Check the physical product: presence of fuse, applicable specification, marked fuse rating, plug model, conductor size and supporting evidence. Never bypass a fuse or substitute an inappropriate rating.
06 / Four protection layers that must remain separate
Each protects a different part of the system. A conforming 13A plug does not prove that the connected GenAI device can run unattended around the clock.
07 / Same edition: human-readable and AI-downloadable
The machine record retains plug_type, rated_current_A, fuse_presence_required, fuse_link_standard, fuse_rating_A, scope, evidence_source_ids and review_status. Unknown values remain null and cannot be converted into approval.
